The design of the self-build houses limits the height of the hot water cylinder (HWC) to 1.2 m. The design capacity of the hot water cylinder is 96 litres and both ends of the cylinder are flat.
1000 litres = 1 m3.
Determine the minimum internal diameter of the HWC required to provide the required capacity.

  1. Gerry says:

    The volume of a right cylinder (which this is) is V = π*r^2*h

    For lack of choice I am assuming that the interior height is 1.2m.

    So 1m^3 = π * r^2 * (1.2)m^3…..Switch the sides of this equation.

    π * r^2 * (1.2)m^3 = 1m^3…..Divide both sides of this equation by 1.2π

    r^2 = (1 / (1.2π)m^2 = (1 / 3.769911)m^2 = 0.26526 m^2…..So

    r = sqrt(0.26526) = 0.51503 m

    The internal radius of the HWC is 0.51503m….<<<… Answer
